Travel Advice: Documents

DOCUMENTS FOR STUDY ABROAD
All students will need a valid passport. Some countries do not allow entry if the traveler’s passport is to expire within 6 months of the travel dates. If you do not have a passport or your passport is set to expire within 6 months of travel, apply for a passport today. Do not wait.

US citizens do not need a visa to travel to France, Italy, and Spain. Students that are citizens of other countries need to contact the French, Italian, or Spanish Consulate or Embassy to find out what their status is.

Students should bring several photocopies or printed scans of their passports. Some hotels require these.

BAILLY RECOMMENDED
“Upload photos of your documents on iCloud, Google Drive, and/or other places. Always travel with your student ID. I suggest you do not walk around with your passport. Keep a photocopy in your wallet/purse and a photo on your phone.”

TRAVEL ADVICE NOTE
This travel advice is primarily directed to students participating in Professor Bailly’s FIU Honors College EspañaFrance, and Italia, Study Abroad programs. It is intended to help twenty-somethings explore, seek adventure, and truly immerse themselves in a culture. The goals are to travel affordably, travel safely, and live like a local. Always remember,  however, that what works for some, may not necessarily work for you. Ultimately, your decisions are your decisions.
