Parisians have many nicknames for Paris, but Paname is the most intriguing. Referring to the country of Panama, “Paname” simultaneously refers to the corruption of the French government during the building of the Panama Canal, as well as the allure of an unknown magical land. Paname is a city of dreams and of (sometimes dubious) entrepreneurs.
According to Claude Duneton, during World War I, French soldiers on the front line expressed their dream to “Revoir Paname”-to see Paris again.
