France Study Abroad Destinations

NOTE: This list of destinations is based on previous years of France Study Abroad of the FIU Honors College with Professor Bailly. There is no guarantee that future years will be able to complete a similar trajectory. Aside from closures due to COVID, weather and human activity may force cancellations.

The group lodges in Paris for the duration of the month of July at Cité Internationale Universitaire de Paris (CIUP). The class visits 11 institutions: Tour Eiffel, Basilique de Saint-Denis, Sainte-Chapelle, Conciergerie, Louvre, Orsay, Invalides, Pantheon, Orangerie, Centre Pompidou, Pere Lachaise. Professor Bailly leads four walking lectures: Ile de la Cité and Quartier Latin, Americans in Paris, Champs Elysees, and Montmartre.


The group lodges in Lyon for approximately three days at Hôtel des Celestins. The class visits three institutions: Basilique de Fourvière, Mémorial de Montluc, and Centre d’Histoire de la Resistance et Deportation. Professor Bailly leads one walking lecture of the Vieux Lyon.


The group lodges in Bayeux for two days at Hôtel Reine Mathilde. The class visits two institutions: Cathédrale de Bayeux and Tapisserie de Bayeux.


The group lodges for one night in the Alpine Refuge Chez Constance. Professor Bailly leads a walking lecture through the Alps.


The group takes a day trip by train to Versailles. The class visit the Château de Versailles and the Gardens of Versailles.


The group takes a day trip by private bus to the Châteaux de la Loire. The class visits two institutions: Château de Chambord and Château de Chenonceau.


The group takes a day trip by train. The class visits The Château de Fontainebleau and then hikes in the Foret de Fontainebleau.


The group makes a three hour stop at the Maison d’Izieu while traveling by private bus.


The group takes a day trip to the D-Day beaches of Normandie. Students present their projects at the American Cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer. The class also visits the Airborne Museum in Sainte-Mere-Eglise and Pointe du Hoc.


The group takes a day trip by private bus to the Mont Saint-Michel. The class visit the Abbaye de Mont-Saint-Michel and then hikes around the island if the tide permits it.
